Newborn Follow-up Clinic
We provides specialized care and monitoring to ensure the healthy development and well-being of newborns.
ABOUT US
Neonatal Developmental Care
The Neonatal Follow-Up Clinic at Sai Lakshya Children’s Clinic offers comprehensive care and support to premature infants, as well as babies with medically complex conditions. Our team of neonatologists, nurse practitioners, and occupational therapists are dedicated to evaluating and nurturing the development of these infants, with a focus on improving long-term outcomes based on research-driven neonatal developmental care strategies.
Early Intervention for Developmental Delays
Our primary goal is to identify and address developmental delays early on, providing families with appropriate interventions to prevent long-term developmental problems. We also welcome referrals from pediatricians or subspecialists for concerns regarding feeding difficulties, muscle tone, or developmental delays. Additionally, parents may schedule evaluations for high-risk babies, ensuring comprehensive care from the very beginning.
Developmental Assessments at Different Ages
Developmental challenges may not be visible immediately after birth, which is why we typically schedule visits at specific corrected ages:
- 4 months corrected age
- 8-12 months corrected age
- 18-24 months corrected age
Visits can start as early as 2-4 weeks after discharge, ensuring a smooth transition for babies and parents at home. Depending on the child’s needs, visits may continue up to the age of 3. (Corrected age is calculated based on the number of months from the due date of delivery.)
Additional NICU Follow-Up Services
At Sai Lakshya Children’s Clinic, our NICU Follow-Up Clinic offers a range of services beyond developmental assessments. These include:
- Care coordination with pediatricians and subspecialists
- Detailed growth and nutritional recommendations
- Management of equipment such as monitors and oxygen
- Assistance with appointments
- General Movement Assessment (GMA)
Our General Movement Assessment evaluates the usual, noticeable, and spontaneous “general movements” in babies, providing valuable insights into their neurological development. This assessment is particularly beneficial for infants at higher risk of neurological problems, such as cerebral palsy, due to prematurity, critical illness, or stroke at birth.
